
A man, reportedly connected to an altercation that took place in the Colina Del Sol neighborhood, was found dead in an apartment complex stairwell near 4300 Dawson Avenue. As reported by the San Diego Police Department, the incident that possibly led to his death unfolded late on Sunday.
Officers from the Mid-city Division were dispatched to the scene of a reported street fight at 4300 Dawson Avenue around 11:58 p.m. on February 9, following a call to the San Diego Police Communications Center. Still, they found neither a fight nor victims on arrival. Subsequently, at about 08:32 a.m. the following morning, a call concerning a man "passed out" in the apartment complex stairwell at 4321 52nd Street was received, with the caller later indicating, at 10:28 a.m., their belief that the man was dead.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, and despite the lack of visible trauma, officers initiated a preliminary investigation to ascertain the circumstances of his demise. The investigation quickly pivoted when officers recognized the man as fitting the description of an individual involved in the February 9 altercation. With the connection made, Homicide Detectives from the San Diego Police were summoned to delve deeper into the case, partnering with the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office to pinpoint the exact injuries and cause of death.
Investigators are gathering physical evidence and seeking surveillance recordings from the surrounding area. The deceased is described as a Black man in his 40s, whose name awaits release pending identification confirmation and family notification.
