A third arrest has been made in connection to the shooting death of a South Florida mother and her 4-year-old daughter, which occurred on the Florida Turnpike last summer, as confirmed by the Broward County Sheriff's Office (BSO). Twenty-year-old Kamarri Sanders is the latest suspect brought into custody, with Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives apprehending him in Miami Gardens on Friday.
According to Local10, Sanders has been charged with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder, and during his court appearance, Sanders was denied bond. Previously, 28-year-old Antoine Harris and 29-year-old Jaquan Thomas had been arrested in connection with the double homicide of the victims, identified as Beatrice Saintvil and her daughter Janelle Souffrant.
The murders took place on June 6, 2023, after reports of gunfire alerted Florida Highway Patrol troopers to the northbound lanes of the Turnpike near Mile Marker 49. Found in a black sedan parked on the left shoulder, Saintvil and Souffrant were discovered with gunshot wounds. "She was a dancer, a party maker, she was a lover, the peacemaker of this house whenever something happened. She was the one who always bring us back together,” a family member described the victims in a statement obtained by NBC Miami.
Following the incident, with the Florida Highway Patrol initially responding to the scene, the BSO took over the investigation. They raised the reward for information leading to an arrest to $20,000, a sum that was matched by an additional $10,000 from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). In a span of several months, BSO’s V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) team successfully identified and arrested Harris and Thomas, with CBS Miami reporting that while Harris was apprehended in Miami Gardens like Sanders, Thomas awaits extradition to Broward County from Georgia, where he was held for unrelated charges.
All three suspects, now including Sanders, face two counts of first-degree murder. The BSO continues their investigation into the tragic events of last June, and they urge anyone with further information to come forward, providing Broward Crime Stoppers number, 954-493-8477, as a point of contact.
