Residents and commuters in southwest Atlanta will need to adjust their travel plans as the Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) has initiated a significant road closure on Cascade Road, stretching from Willis Mills Road SW to Kingsdale Drive SW. This temporary closure is in effect 24 hours a day, providing local access only, until the completion of essential drainage work connected to the Cascade Road/Avenue Complete Street Phase I project, as per the ATLDOT's official announcement.
The construction, which began immediately upon announcement, is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., although construction hours may extend to expedite the work's completion. The impact of this development on the daily commute is not to be underestimated, potentially affecting thousands of residents who frequent this stretch of Cascade Road for their various daily endeavors.
To help mitigate the effect of the closure, ATLDOT has outlined specific detour routes. Eastbound traffic on Cascade Road is redirected to turn left onto Kingsdale Dr SW, then left onto Clearbrook Dr SW, followed by a right onto Oakcrest Dr SW, a right onto Mangum Ln SW, a left onto Lynhurst Dr SW, a right onto Benjamin E. Mays Dr SW, a right onto Willis Mill Rd SW, and finally a left back onto Cascade Rd SW. Conversely, the westbound traffic will turn right onto Willis Mill Rd SW, left onto Benjamin E. Mays Dr SW, left onto Lynhurst Dr SW, right onto Mangum Ln SW, left onto Oakcrest Dr SW, left onto Clearbrook Dr SW, and a right onto Kingsdale Dr SW to return to Cascade Road.
The inconvenience posed by this interruption is acknowledged by ATLDOT, and they have provided a channel for queries and concerns through their email address, [email protected]. Further information and updates regarding the road closure and detour routes can be found on their official website. Commuters are advised to plan their trips accordingly to avoid unexpected delays during this construction period.
