Colorado motorists faced a treacherous commute Tuesday as snow and sub-freezing temperatures swept across the state, leading to road closures and warnings for drivers to remain cautious. 9NEWS reported that northbound Interstate 25 closed due to a multi-vehicle crash in northern Colorado.

The Colorado State Patrol advised travelers to slow down and to leave extra room between vehicles, to prevent further incidents on the slippery roads. "Road conditions remain icy and motorists should lower their speeds, leave extra room between vehicles and drive with caution," state patrol officials said, according to The Denver Post. Traffic was diverted off northbound I-25 at Exit 392 for Windsor and drivers were encouraged to seek alternative routes to avoid the affected area.

In response to the crash, stretches of I-70 and U.S. 6 also experienced closures and crashes as a result of the hazardous conditions. Motorists found themselves navigating a labyrinth of detours and delays, underscoring the reach of winter's icy grip on Colorado's transportation network.

However, roads began to clear by late morning with The Coloradoan reporting that northbound I-25 south of Fort Collins had reopened following the earlier multi-vehicle collision. Despite the reopening, the patrol maintained its cautionary stance. "Roads remained icy Tuesday morning, and drivers were asked to lower their speeds, leave extra space between vehicles and generally drive with caution," the patrol informed, as relayed by the Coloradoan.
