A United Airlines flight bound for Los Cabos was compelled to make a swift return to Chicago's O'Hare Airport following an issue with the cockpit windshield. Flight 1879, which had 156 passengers and six crew members on board, was met by emergency services with a cautious approach before it could safely taxi to the gate, as reported by NBC Chicago.
"The flight landed safely and was met by emergency services as a precaution before it taxied to the gate, where passengers safely deplaned," United Airlines shared in a statement, seeming to guarantee passengers' safety with an alternate aircraft swiftly arranged to take them to their final destination. The exact nature of the windshield issue wasn't immediately made clear, and the statement from United Airlines confirmed that there was no evidence of a fire in the cockpit, as per NBC Chicago.
Further reporting from ABC 7 Chicago added that the aircraft in question was a Boeing 737-800 model. While no injuries were reported from the incident, the airline has yet to release more details on the nature of the windshield's issue.
