Commuters got a breath of relief as the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has officially reopened US 60 between Superior and Miami following an extended shutdown. The thoroughfare was closed to allow crews to safely clear away hazardous rock that had been loosened during a recent blasting operation, part of an ongoing project focused on replacing two aging bridges, reported by ADOT.
While the roadway is accessible once again, drivers should expect to adjust their speed accordingly; a temporary speed limit of 25 mph has been implemented through the affected area at milepost 227. This measure is set to ensure the safety of both the commuters and the workers on-site. Motorists, when traveling through this zone, need to remain vigilant and to strictly adhere to the altered speed restrictions.
The closures, primarily scheduled between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, are a necessary interruption to accommodate safe blasting and subsequent cleanup activities. These measures contribute to the replacement of the Queen Creek Bridge and Waterfall Canyon Bridge to the east of Superior. Detours during these times include taking state routes 77 and 177 via Winkelman, for those looking to circumnavigate the work area.
For anyone interested to further understand the full scope and timeline of this bridge replacement project, or for those wishing to sign up for email alerts, detailed information can easily be found on ADOT's dedicated project webpage. Real-time updates on highway conditions are also readily available on the Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, through the az511 app, which is available for both Apple and Android devices, or by just dialing 511.
