Utah State University's very own music professor, Greg Wheeler, has been recognized for his longstanding dedication to teaching, earning himself a spot in the Utah Music Educators Association (UMEA) Hall of Fame, as reported by USU Today. With a teaching career spanning over 30 years, Wheeler's focus on woodwinds and performance, coupled with his educational contributions primarily in Cache Valley, has now been celebrated with this latest accolade.

UMEA, an organization striving to enhance and provide growth and leadership opportunities in music education, has found a consistent advocate in Wheeler, and during its 53rd Annual Awards Recognition held on Jan. 31, the association honored Wheeler for his work while the USU Chamber Singers were also featured as the state's top collegiate choir. USU's ongoing involvement with UMEA includes hosting events and alumni receptions that reflect their shared commitment to promoting music education excellence.

In his response to the recognition, Wheeler expressed his gratitude, "I’m deeply honored to be recognized by the organization and look forward to continuing my collaborating with fellow UMEA members to elevate our community through music and music education," per USU Today. This sense of pride and community runs deep at the university, evidenced further during the UMEA ceremony where USU alumni Rhonda Rhodes and Rod Wayman also received accolades for their respective contributions to the field of music education.

Nicholas Morrison, Dean of the Caine College of the Arts, highlighted Wheeler's sustained impact on the industry, stating, "His work sets an outstanding example for all of us at the Caine College of the Arts and for our students as they enter the profession," as cited by USU Today. The college boasts several faculty members and alumni who have been previously honored by UMEA, with names including Max F. Dalby, Al Wardle, Glen Fifield, Larry G. Smith, Ralph Matesky, and Leslie Timmons, among others.
