Following a report of gunfire in Walnut Creek, local police apprehended 43-year-old Melvin Kibbee for attempted first-degree murder and firearms offenses. The Walnut Creek Police Department, in a social media post, shared that officers responded to the 100 block of Sierra Drive last night after reports of shots fired. They quickly identified Kibbee as the suspect, who had fled the scene when officers arrived.
Working in coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff and the California Highway Patrol, Kibbee was arrested this morning. Held at the Martinez Detention Facility, his bail is $600,000. The police investigation indicated that the victim and Kibbee knew each other, fortunately leaving no one injured during the incident with no outstanding suspects.
