Last Thursday, a tragic incident unfolded on Highway 138 near Roseburg. A fatal crash involving a silver Honda Accord ended with the death of the driver, identified as 36-year-old Jessica Rae Thompson of Winston, as reported by Oregon State Police.

The accident occurred at around 3:15 p.m. near milepost 5.3. According to the preliminary investigation findings, Thompson's vehicle veered off the roadway, striking an embankment. The force of the collision caused the Accord to become airborne, rolling over before stopping down the embankment.

Thompson ejected from the car during the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed that speed and impairment were contributing factors, and it is reported that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

The aftermath of the crash had significant consequences for traffic, with Highway 138 being affected for around three hours while investigations were conducted. Responding to the scene alongside Oregon State Police were members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Central Douglas Fire, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
