
On Monday, a Haywood County deputy tried to stop a 2016 Dodge Charger on Briarcreek Road near Highway 19 West. The driver, JaMarion Russell, fled at high speed. The deputy pursued but then stopped when it became clear Russell wasn't going to pull over. The deputy later found the crashed vehicle against a tree in a large ditch, according to FOX13 Memphis.
After the crash, Russell got out of his vehicle and ran on foot, avoiding the deputy's attempt to capture him. Both law enforcement and Russell's mother, who had been notified of the crash by her son's phone, took part in the search. The family continued searching after law enforcement left and found Russell's body in a ditch. Authorities were called to the scene and confirmed his death, as reported by WREG.
The Haywood County Sheriff’s Office which detailed the sequence of the event and confirmed the ongoing nature of the investigation. The specific circumstances of Russell's death remain unclear, and his body has been sent to Nashville for an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death. The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident. Deputy Turner told Russell's mother that he would get warrants and have the car towed. After the car was towed and Russell was not found, deputies left the scene. The family later found Russell's body, as per Action News 5
