Over the weekend, a fatal collision on State Road 19 in Lake County claimed the life of a 30-year-old Dunnellon man and resulted in injuries to two teenagers. The incident, which occurred late Saturday night around 11:40 p.m., involved a 2020 Audi A3 heading southbound and a 2013 Ford Mustang traveling north, as reported by WFTV.
The Florida Highway Patrol provided details indicating that the Audi, occupied by two 17-year-olds from Groveland, veered into the northbound lane, directly into the path of the Mustang. As a result of this maneuver, the Audi collided with the Mustang, leading the latter off the road, where it subsequently crashed into a ditch, according to ClickOrlando. The Mustang's driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities believe he was not wearing a seat belt during the crash.
The occupants of the Audi, a 17-year-old male driver and a female passenger of the same age, sustained minor injuries and were transported to South Lake Hospital. Information provided by FOX 35 Orlando noted that the collision impact was on the left side of both vehicles, which is consistent with the other reports.
While the Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash's circumstances, they have not yet released further details about potential contributing factors or whether charges will be filed.
