Chopper to the Rescue at Frank Raines Off-Road Park: When rough terrain and gravity collided in a rollover incident at Frank Raines Off-Road Park, Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office's Air 101 was there to lift the situation — and an injured victim — to safer ground. The accident occurred around noon, and a text to 911 got the rescue wheels, or rather rotors, spinning.
A side-by-side off-road vehicle had tumbled down a 300-foot slope, ending up in a gorge difficult to reach by traditional means. Despite the ordeal, it was lucky that only minor injuries were reported for one of the passengers, who was flung from the vehicle. However, due to the severity of their condition and the challenging landscape, air rescue was deemed necessary, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office reported.
Local emergency services, including Cal-Fire, West Stanislaus Fire District, and Stanislaus Regional 911, coordinated with Air 101 for a long-line rescue. The trapped individual was lifted to a landing zone and then transferred to PHI Medical Helicopter for a hospital flight. The extent of the victim's injuries is still unknown.
