Last Saturday night, a routine DUI stop in Colma took a serious turn when the driver was found to be heavily armed. The Colma Police Department reported that they received a call around 9:20 PM about a Chevrolet sedan allegedly driven by an intoxicated driver who nearly struck a pedestrian. Officers dispatched to Serramonte Boulevard and Collins Avenue and stopped the vehicle, fitting the description provided by a concerned bystander.
Upon interacting with the driver, identified as 30-year-old Joshua Parker of Alameda, officers noted a strong scent of alcohol. Parker exhibited clear signs of intoxication and failed a series of field sobriety tests, which led to his arrest for DUI. The police then discovered a loaded gun concealed between the vehicle's seats during a search before having the vehicle towed. This finding resulted in additional charges against Parker for carrying a concealed weapon and a loaded firearm in public.
"Officers detected the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person and he displayed the objective signs of being under the influence of an alcoholic beverage," the Colma Police Department stated in a social media post.
The situation escalated further when Parker, while at San Mateo County Jail, threatened retaliation against the officers. He was thereafter charged with resisting/obstructing a peace officer with threats of violence/intimidation. After his combative behavior at the jail, he was processed and remained in custody, with his vehicle impounded.
