Det. Brian Smith, passed away from pancreatic cancer. In honor of his 19 years of service, the Alpharetta police force has arranged a public procession and placed a memorial patrol car at their headquarters. The procession will start at 10:05 a.m. today, following a route from Rucker Road/Old Milton Parkway to West Parkway, then north on Westside Parkway, west on Cumming Street, and ending at Alpharetta United Methodist Church, according to FOX5 Atlanta.
Det. Smith passed away on Wednesday last week after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by family. The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety invited the community to join in remembering the detective. "We love you, Brian. Rest easy — we’ve got the watch from here," the department shared in a statement, WSB-TV reports.
Instead of flowers, Det. Smith's family has requested donations to the Alpharetta Public Safety Foundation to honor his legacy. Community members can visit the memorial patrol car outside the Alpharetta Public Safety Headquarters on Westside Parkway and Old Milton Parkway.
