Trooper Kamron Debelak from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) has marked a milestone in his career with his graduation from the Police Academy Exchange Program in Abu Dhabi. The ceremony, a moment of pride and significance, took place on February 4th at the Abu Dhabi Police College, with AZDPS Colonel Jeffrey Glover in attendance, celebrating the accomplishment of the program's participants.
The program's inception, a product of collaboration between the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Interior, aimed to culminate a global perspective on policing. It spanned over four months, engaging 53 officers from different nations in an immersive curriculum that touched on various facets, ranging from physical training to academic studies, meticulous marching drills to practical, hands-on exercises. "The absolute best part of the program was the cooperation and innovation displayed by multiple countries," Debelak recounted in a statement provided by the AZDPS, applauding the collective drive and the wealth of knowledge shared among peers.
Debelak's journey with the AZDPS spans almost five years, and participation in this exchange program was fueled by a desire to grasp new cultural insights, and policing strategies, and establish cross-border connections. Assigned to Highway Patrol District 13 (Phoenix Metro East), Trooper Debelak's newfound skills, particularly in handling transnational crime, are anticipated to be valuable as he eyes a future transition into detective work within criminal investigations.
"The biggest takeaway was the relationships I made," Trooper Debelak told the AZDPS, underlining the significance of international camaraderie and alliances formed throughout the program. His experience overseas is seen as a crucial asset in his professional aspiration, especially as globalization continually reshapes the landscape of law enforcement.
