A vehicle fire that broke out in Waipahu last week has now been determined to be an arson incident, according to the Honolulu Fire Department. Details emerged following the Honolulu Fire Department's investigation of the March 11 blaze that engulfed a trailer on Farrington Highway. The initial report indicated that fire fighters responded promptly to the 911 call made at 9:01 a.m., arriving six minutes later to combat the flames.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. Firefighters quickly battled the blaze and confirmed the trailer was empty. The fire was fully extinguished by 9:29 a.m., with a final sweep to ensure safety. The fire, near 94-896 Farrington Highway, involved two units and about five firefighters, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.
The investigation, led by a Fire Investigator and the Accelerant Detection Canine Team, found that the fire was intentionally set. The Honolulu Fire Department confirmed that ignitable liquids were found inside the trailer, indicating it was a deliberate act. The investigation also revealed that an accelerant helped spread the flames.
As to the repercussions of the fire, property loss has been estimated at $10,000. The investigation to identify the responsible parties for the fire is ongoing and the Honolulu Fire Department encourages anyone with information to come forward, reflecting a community call to action in the wake of this intentional destruction.
