The National Weather Service has issued an alert for Atlanta and the surrounding areas, cautioning residents about severe thunderstorms today with the likelihood of showers persisting into the evening. "Showers and thunderstorms likely before 1 pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 1 pm and 4 pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 pm," the service warned. Highs are expected to hover near 73 while winds could stir at a steady 5 to 10 mph, gusting up to 25 mph. The probability of precipitation remains high at 90%, with new rainfall potentially reaching up half an inch, informs the National Weather Service.
Tonight, the Atlanta area will experience a 60% chance of continued showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8 pm, before the skies clear slightly, with an expected drop to a cooler 48 degrees. Residents could still encounter gusty conditions, with northwest winds ranging from 5 to 10 mph, and gusts might ascend to 15 mph. The changes in weather will begin to settle by Tuesday, with clear, sunny skies and a mild high of 78 degrees predicted, along with a gentler northwest wind around 5 mph.
As the week progresses, Atlantans can anticipate a relatively calm weather pattern. A 20% chance of showers interrupts the clear skies Tuesday night, after 2 am, as temperature dips to a low around 60 with light southeast winds. "A slight chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 5 pm," on Wednesday potentially disrupts the partly sunny day, culminating in a high near 84 degrees, accompanied by a more robust south wind of 10 to 15 mph, according to NWS forecast. Chances for showers remain minimal through Wednesday night.
The latter part of the week promises warmer temperatures with Thursday seeing a partly sunny sky and a high near 88 degrees. Cloud coverage increases slightly by Thursday night, but low temperatures hold steady around 66. Heading into the weekend, Friday's forecast looks mostly sunny with temps climbing near 89 degrees, but by Saturday, the likelihood of showers nudges up to 20 percent during the day with an uptick to a 30 percent chance come nightfall. As Sunday rolls in, showers and thunderstorms are likely once more with mostly cloudy conditions and a high near 77, signaling another wet conclusion to the week in Atlanta.
