The Atlanta Braves have traded for left-hander José Suárez from the Los Angeles Angels, with right-hander Ian Anderson heading to the Angels. AP News confirmed the trade took place yesterday, continuing the offseason dealings between the two teams.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Ian Anderson, who shined in the 2021 World Series, has struggled since with a 2.65 ERA and 18 walks over 17 innings this spring. He has not pitched in the majors since 2022 due to Tommy John surgery, but was competing for a spot on the Braves' roster this year. Anderson has an overall record of 22-13 with a 3.97 ERA in his major league career.
José Suárez, a former regular in the Angels' rotation, has faced challenges in 2023. He has shifted between the starting rotation, the bullpen, and the minors as he works to regain his form.
This trade is the fourth between the two teams this offseason, continuing a pattern of moves under Angels general manager Perry Minasian, who has previously worked with Braves president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos with both the Blue Jays and Braves.
