The Atlanta Police Department is currently investigating a hit and run incident that occurred at the intersection of 10th and Piedmont on Monday, according to an official report from the department's website. Officers responded to the scene around 2:48pm, where they found that a female pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle while trying to cross the street. The vehicle in question did not remain at the location and had fled prior to police arrival.
Witnesses at the intersection provided accounts of the event and the victim, who was transported to Grady hospital, is now in stable condition, but the driver responsible has yet to be identified, the police have collected surveillance footage and are working with the APD Hit and Run Investigations Unit to track down the vehicle and driver involved; this case marks yet another reminder of the dangers pedestrians face even in well-traveled city areas.
According to the Atlanta Police Department's news release, the ongoing investigation is active, as authorities have taken steps to interview the victim in hopes of gleaning more information that could lead to the apprehension of the suspect involved in this incident.
