The Atlanta Police Department's Airport Drug Interdiction Unit made a significant drug seizure at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Friday last week. A passenger arriving from Ontario International Airport was flagged for suspected narcotics transportation, prompting officers and a K-9 to inspect their luggage.
According to the Atlanta Police Department release, the K-9 alerted officers to one checked bag, which was then searched, revealing about 35.8 pounds of methamphetamine and 4.6 pounds of fentanyl. The passenger associated with the luggage was arrested without incident.
The Atlanta Police Department confirmed that Homeland Security Investigations will continue to investigate and pursue prosecution in the case.
