Pickleball enthusiasts in Barrow County have reason to anticipate the forthcoming spring days, though they'll need to brace for a temporary disruption. Victor Lord Park's outdoor pickleball courts are set to temporarily shut down starting April 14 for a series of renovations and expansions that promise more space and a fresher look. According to a recent announcement on Barrow County's official website, the upgrade will double the court number from six to 12 and implement enhancements including resurfacing, new signage, and improved fencing with a new entrance gate.
The decision to revamp these facilities comes as no surprise, with Barrow County Parks and Recreation Director Zach Churchill noting, "We understand that pickleball is a popular and rapidly growing sport not only in Barrow County, but across the country. The work done to the courts will only enhance our ability to offer players of all skill levels and abilities the chance to play," according to Barrow County. This sentiment echoes the burgeoning appeal of the sport that has been quickly to gain traction across the nation.
For pickleball players looking to whack some wiffle balls while the outdoor courts are under construction, there's alternative arrangements in place. The park's indoor pickleball courts remain accessible for games, located within the Parks and Recreation Building. Additionally, an outdoor court at the Barrow County Senior Center also awaits players looking for open-air gameplay during the interim.
While the exact completion date for this project hinges on the whims of nature, mid-June is the target set by county officials if the weather permits.
