A group of volunteers gathered at Birmingham Park on last Saturday for the park’s annual Clean-up Day, surpassing the attendance of previous events. The City of Milton reported that the volunteers made significant progress in improving the park's recreational space for the local community.
Jen Young, who oversees Outdoor Recreation for the park, shared a story about her "Ranger Jen" nickname, earned after helping a man whose wife got lost in the park's 200-plus acres. After her speech, volunteers formed teams to focus on specific tasks aimed at enhancing and maintaining the park. Tasks included repairing paths, updating trail signage, installing a new informational map, and maintaining garden beds as per the City of Milton.
In addition to individual volunteers, local groups like the Milton Equestrian and Adopt-a-Trail committees, as well as the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, contributed to the event. These groups helped with tasks like trimming trails and clearing obstructions, focusing on both maintenance and stewardship of the park.
In just two hours, the volunteers accomplished a great deal. The work completed has made Birmingham Park safer, cleaner, and more enjoyable for everyone.
