New Orleanians woke up to blustery conditions this morning, with the National Weather Service reporting mostly cloudy skies and Northwest gusts reaching up to 37 mph. According to the NWS New Orleans, the humidity lingers around the 80% mark, with a wind chill that made it feel as cool as 48°F at the day's start. But don't get too comfortable in those sweaters just yet, because as the clouds set to gradually clear, highs are expected to climb near 69°F.
As we head into the evening, the winds are forecasted to slowly die down, and calm conditions will prevail with a low around 50°F. But looking forward to the rest of the week, New Orleans should prepare to significantly warm up. The NWS projects, "Sunny, with a high near 73," for Tuesday, and temperatures are to steadily rise, peaking at a high near 80°F by Thursday. Wednesday night, however, may bring partly cloudy conditions, with lows hovering at around 62°F.
Come Friday, a Southern wind is to sweep through at 5 to 15 mph, reportedly bringing gusts as high as 30 mph. Weekend weather continues to look dynamic, with a significant chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm next Saturday. "Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm," shares the NWS outlook for the day. Despite the turn in the weather, temperatures will remain high, with a projected 78°F.
For those planning next weekend, keep those umbrellas handy. The slight chance of thunderstorms will continue into Saturday night, but the storm clouds are expected to disperse by Sunday. NWS anticipates a mostly clear sky by Sunday night, carrying a chillier low around 56°F. And, to close the week, "Sunny, with a high near 73," promises a respite from the rain, and a fittingly mild backdrop for any of New Orleans's outdoor activities.
