A tragic event unfolded on the icy expanse of Cannon Lake in Faribault, MN, as the body of local ice fisherman, 58-year-old Troy Allen Krenz, was recovered by authorities. The Rice County Sheriff's Office detailed the events leading up to the discovery, noting Krenz had embarked on a fishing trip on the evening of March 4 and never returned, prompting a search by family and friends the following day.
According to Rice County, the search group located Krenz's body at approximately 1000 hours on Wednesday, March 5, floating in the lake, this discovery led to the dispatch of rescue teams including personnel from the Faribault Fire Department and the Rice County Sheriff's Office who utilized cold water suits to retrieve the deceased fisherman from the frigid waters.
The Rice County Dive Team, North Ambulance, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) were also present to provide assistance during the recovery operation, as reported by Rice County. The joint effort underscores the community's swift response to the grim situation, emphasizing the extensive coordination required in such emergency scenarios.
"The investigation is ongoing, and the Rice County Sheriff's Office is working with the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office to determine the official cause of death," Rice County stated.
