If you've been considering adding a furry friend to your life, County Animal Services allows you to do just that and save some money. For the entire month of March, potential pet parents are invited to spin a Wheel o’ Fortune to determine their adoption fee, with possible discounts reducing fees to anywhere from nothing to $17. The promotion is available at the South Shelter in Bonita and the North Shelter in Carlsbad, as per the County of San Diego.
The shelters, located at 5821 Sweetwater Road in Bonita and 2481 Palomar Airport Road in Carlsbad, are open for walk-ins from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Adoption fees include spaying or neutering, a microchip, and updated vaccinations. Dogs also get a one-year license. County shelter director Vaughn Maurice shares the sentiment behind the offer, per the County of San Diego, "In our opinion, the luck flows both ways with this deal. The person and the pet both gain an enduring friend."
There are some standing offers for fee waivers as well. Those looking to adopt pets at the shelter for over 30 days, pets aged 8 and older, and adopters 60 years and older can do so without paying an adoption fee. If commitment is a concern, the shelter also offers fostering options, providing all necessary supplies such as food, a leash, and bedding. This gives a pet a break from the shelter life and increases its chance of a permanent home.
