A fire broke out at a property in Boulder County early this morning, leading to a multi-department response but no firefighting action due to hazardous conditions. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office reports that the blaze was reported just after midnight at a two-story building on the Sugarmill property, located in the 11900 block of Sugarmill Rd.
Authorities say, fire trucks from the Mountain View and Longmont Fire Departments were dispatched, as well as personnel from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office and Longmont Police Department. Confronted by hazardous materials and risky situations, the fire crews stood down, allowing the structure to burn through the night. Engulfed by flames, the building was rendered a hands-off situation for the fire personnel.
Sugarmill Road has been closed while the area remains under watch by law enforcement and fire department personnel, who will continue to monitor the scene. Officials are urging the public to steer clear of the vicinity for safety reasons.
The cause of the fire is yet unknown, and investigations will pick up in earnest when the sun rises. Sgt. Sharon McKim, in a statement provided to local news outlets, advised that "further investigative resources will be consulted during the daytime," according to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.
