Early this morning, the Boulder Police Department faced an unprovoked attack when a man, identified as Robert Saraduke, aged 62, deliberately rammed his vehicle into a patrol car. According to official reports, the officers were stationed at a gas station in the 4700 block of Baseline Road when Saraduke approached in his Saab around 12:45 a.m. Although initially silent, he then proceeded to strike the officer's car three times aggressively.
Despite the escalation, the officers quickly tried to de-escalate, warning Saraduke of the potential use of a Taser if he failed to comply with their commands. Saraduke, continuing to advance towards the officers, urged them to "shoot him." It was then that an officer successfully deployed her Taser and subdued Saraduke, who persisted in resisting even once on the ground but was eventually detained without further incident.
In light of the attack, Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn commended the officers for handling the situation professionally and expressed relief that no one sustained injuries. "I am incredibly thankful no one was injured during this targeted assault on one of our officers," he said in a statement detailed by the City of Boulder news release. "Our officers knowingly take on risks every shift to keep Boulder safe, but they do not sign up to be attacked like this, and we will not tolerate these attacks in our community."
Robert Saraduke now faces several charges, including felony assault first degree of a peace officer, and was booked into jail following the incident.
