Drivers in Callaway County should be prepared for the continuation of the ongoing roadwork on U.S. Route 54, which is set to resume next week after winter paused progress. According to an announcement on the Missouri Department of Transportation's official website, the resurfacing project that began in the summer of 2024 will kick off again on Tuesday, with an expected completion by the end of May. The work will span from Route H in Fulton to Auxvasse Creek, just north of Interstate 70 in Kingdom City.

For those needing to travel through this stretch, the hours of construction will differ based on location. As reported by MoDOT, nighttime operations will run from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. specifically on the segment from County Road 220 to Auxvasse Creek. Meanwhile, those commuting during daylight hours should anticipate construction activity from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Route H up to County Road 220. However, keep in mind these schedules are subject to quickly change, depending on weather conditions.

In relation to this work, MoDOT is urging local motorists to remain vigilant and to cooperate with safety guidelines. "MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones," states the MoDOT notice. These measures are critical to ensure not just personal safety but also that of the construction crews at work.
