Travelers in Callaway County should prepare for some adjustments next week as local Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) crews embark on culvert replacement projects on Route J. This essential maintenance work will result in temporary road closures at two separate locations, making detours necessary for some commuters.
According to a MoDOT release, the first closure is scheduled to occur next Monday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. between County Roads 326 and 324. The subsequent closure is planned for Tuesday, April 1, during the same hours, but will affect the stretch between County Roads 354 and 345. Although local property owners can still expect to have driveway access, those who normally traverse the full route will need to seek an alternate means to reach their destinations.
These disruptions come as a routine part of infrastructure maintenance aimed to ensure the longevity and safety of local roadways. MoDOT emphasizes that all the scheduled work is dependent on the cooperation of the weather, leaving room for potential schedule changes should conditions prove unfavorable.
Mindful of the impact on daily commutes, MoDOT has advised drivers to prepare for these changes, urging them to "work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones." They stress the importance of exercising additional caution in these zones, to strictly obey traffic signage, and to avoid getting distracted, acknowledging the added necessity to ensure everyone's safety.
