
Canutillo High School's robotics teams are set to make a splash on the international stage, having secured their place in the upcoming VEX World Competition in Dallas. In a recent accomplishment at the Texas Region 1 High School V5 Robotics State Championship, both teams from Canutillo managed to clinch invitations to what's known as the world's largest robotics event. According to Canutillo ISD, the school is sending two of the region's six teams to the global showdown.
Success isn't new to Canutillo High, Hector Acosta, a CHS Robotics Teacher, implying that the school's history in STEM competitions is marked by prolific achievements. Names of the students on both qualifying teams were released, featuring John Martinez, Evan Romero, Victoria De La Herran, and Raquel Ramirez on Team A, and Jalen Delgado, Emilio Mendoza, Lauren Orrantia, and Oliva Concha forming Team B. These teams used their engineering abilities, and teamwork to overcome the challenges posed by the competition and build superior robots.
The students' efforts this season have not gone unnoticed, as they amassed several prestigious awards including three Tournament Championships, an Excellence Award, two Skills Awards, and two Judges’ Awards, before the decisive regional state championship at Hanks High School. Jaime Campo, yet another Robotics Team Teacher at Canutillo, expressed excitement over the prospect of showcasing their students' hard work on an international platform where they will compete against peers from 50 different countries.
The VEX World Competition, which will take place from May 6-8, promises to be a convergence of the brightest young minds in robotics from around the globe. With its venue at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, the event offers Canutillo students not just an arena to match wits with international competitors, but also a unique learning opportunity, to draw insights from the techniques and innovations of their global contemporaries.
