In Carlsbad, a routine foot patrol took an unlikely turn when local officers stumbled upon a full-blown fraud operation. According to the City of Carlsbad Police Department's social media post, the initial discovery was made when officers noticed a parked car with a shredded tire outside a motel. Its appearance was made all the more suspicious, with drug paraphernalia sitting in plain view, prompting the police to dig deeper.

A records check revealed that the vehicle was more than just a derelict car; it had been actively used as a getaway car in numerous crimes across multiple counties, ranging from mail theft to grand theft auto. The officers' investigation swiftly led them to a nearby motel room connected to the suspect vehicle. Inside, two individuals were contacted, one on post-release supervision and the other with an outstanding felony warrant. It didn't take long for officers to notice multiple personal checks scattered across the counter, hinting at the gravity of the operations taking place within the confines of this room.
