Those planning to navigate Central Parkway this weekend should prepare to reroute. Thanks to the latest phase of the Brighton Approach Bridge Project, the stretch between the Western Hills Viaduct and Brighton Place will be effectively off-limits to traffic. The closure will be in full swing from 6 pm today until 2 pm tomorrow and from 8 pm on Saturday until 11 am on Sunday, March 30. Crews will be on deck to freshly paint bridge beams and meticulously install temporary supports for a new concrete roadway deck.
Drivers and cyclists must find alternative routes to avoid being caught up in the stop-and-start that will invariably characterize the area. Much like a well-timed dance, the road will open briefly only to close shortly thereafter quickly. The City of Cincinnati announced that the inconvenience isn't a one-off event. There's another closure to look forward to or plan around the following weekend, April 4-6.
While understandably a hassle for daily commutes, these disruptions are but a segment of a larger narrative. The Brighton Approach Bridge Project aims to give Central Parkway a much-needed facelift, ensuring safer and smoother travels in the future. City officials have long advocated for the project's necessity, promising benefits that outweigh the temporary inconvenience of detours and delays.
Commuters are urged to stay abreast of these and other upcoming closures by regularly checking the city's traffic alerts. Detour signs and information will be posted, but savvy travelers will do well to plan to avoid unnecessary delays. Remember that walking across the affected portion of Central Parkway will not be an option during the closure times, so pedestrians, too, will need to adapt their routes. Residents can look forward to observing the structure's transformation as the project unfolds, one painted beam and poured concrete section at a time.
