A Charlotte man has succumbed to injuries after being shot near Atlanta's State Farm Arena amidst the bustle of the NCAA College Basketball tournament on Friday night. According to reports by WSOC-TV, the 42-year-old male victim, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead early on Saturday morning at approximately 4:14 a.m. after medical staff initially managed to revive him following the shooting incident.
The violent event took place just blocks away from the sports venue where fans had gathered for the tournament. In response to the incident and the heightened activity from the NCAA Tournament, Atlanta police had earlier cautioned visitors to remain alert and prudent while in the area. "The Atlanta Police Department is well-versed in managing large-scale events and remains fully prepared to support the safety of both visitors and residents during this high-profile weekend," the department stated, with the statement obtained by WBTV.
