Charlotte authorities are investigating a double homicide that occurred in the Freedom Division. According to a press release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, detectives from the Homicide Unit were dispatched to the 4200 block of Welling Avenue following reports of an assault with a deadly weapon on Sunday evening.

The call, which came in shortly before 6 p.m., led officers to the scene where they found two individuals with gunshot wounds, each fighting for their lives in the aftermath of the violence that had unfolded. Despite the rapid response and efforts of medical personnel, both victims succumbed to their injuries after being transported to the hospital with life-threatening conditions, marking an all too familiar tale of life lost and the search for justice that must follow.

Crime Scene Search units scoured the area to gather physical evidence, working in concert with CMPD's Operations Command and receiving support from both the Charlotte Fire Department (CFD) and Mecklenburg Emergency Medical Services Agency (MEDIC).

The shooting is under investigation, but details remain limited. Authorities are working to determine the motive and identify those responsible for the deaths of two people on Welling Avenue.
