Chicagoans woke up to a wintry mix this morning, a chilly reminder that spring isn’t here just yet. According to a National Weather Service report, today's forecast calls for an initial offering of snow before 9 am, followed by a rain and snow combination, with temperatures hovering around 36 degrees.
The wind, though starting from the southwest at a mellow 5 mph, will shift to east northeast in the afternoon. A total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible, so it's likely that shovels can remain in their summer hibernation. On the other end of the day, the chance of precipitation drops to 30% with a mix of rain and snow before clearing up by 7 pm.
Looking forward, Chicago is poised to welcome warmer and sunnier days. Tomorrow will flaunt a mostly to partly sunny sky with highs reaching the low to mid-40s. Sunday is projected to be even more generous, tipping the scales at around 10 degrees warmer, with a broad stroke of 50-degree weather laying claim under those mostly sunny skies.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, the city may experience its first 60-degree days of 2025 by Monday and Tuesday. Lake Michigan's influence is expected to assert itself by midweek, potentially cooling temperatures near the lake and in northern areas, even as inland locales bask in warmer conditions.
There are currently no storm systems on the horizon.
