An investigation is currently underway following a freeway shooting that took place on State Route (SR) 24 near the Wilder Road overcrossing in Contra Costa County. According to a social media statement from the California Highway Patrol's (CHP) Contra Costa Area, the incident occurred yesterday at around 10:27 a.m., when a vehicle was reportedly struck by a bullet whilst traveling westbound on SR-24.
CHP officers responded to the report, quickly arriving at the scene to aid the victim and to launch a full investigation. To ensure a thorough process, westbound lanes of SR-24 were shut down between Camino Pablo and the Caldecott Tunnel for close to an hour. Despite initial concerns, the victim escaped physical harm, with preliminary findings suggesting the vehicle was an uninvolved passerby not intended to be the target of the gunfire.
The CHP has issued a call for assistance from the public, urging anyone with information that could aid their investigation to reach out. "CHP requests anyone with information related to this incident to contact the CHP Contra Costa Area at (925) 646-4980 or via email at [email protected]," the CHP Contra Costa stated.
