Coco Gauff dominated Sofia Kenin at the Miami Open, winning 6-0, 6-0 in just 47 minutes. WSVN reported that it was a strong return to form for the world No. 3, who had been struggling with consistency prior to the tournament.
Despite the impressive win, Gauff remained humble. "I was definitely playing well today, and maybe she wasn’t playing her peak great tennis," Gauff told WTA Tennis. "I don’t think anyone who is playing their best tennis will have that scoreline today, so I’m not going to sit here and say she played her best tennis."
In other Miami Open news, Ashlyn Krueger stunned seventh-seed Elena Rybakina with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 victory. Krueger, who is known for her similar playing style to Rybakina, embraced the nickname "Baby Rybakina" after the win. "Big serves, big returns," Krueger said in an interview with WSVN. She will face Leylah Fernandez next.
For Gauff, the victory reinforced her approach of treating each match as a new opportunity. She hit 13 winners and only three unforced errors against Kenin, a major improvement from her previous performance at Indian Wells. "For me personally, I know where I personally stand in my game," she told WTA Tennis. Next, Gauff will play world No. 28 Maria Sakkari, whom she recently defeated in straight sets at Indian Wells.
