Joseph John Pyrzyk, a 29-year-old convicted felon, has been sentenced to 11 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to illegal firearm possession, ammunition charges, and failing to surrender for a prior felony gun charge sentence. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office release, Pyrzyk's legal troubles began in January 2023 when he was arrested in West Palm Beach, Florida, under an existing warrant. During the arrest, officers discovered a pistol in his vehicle, leading to additional charges. Despite being sentenced to two years in federal prison in June 2022, Pyrzyk had not yet begun serving his sentence due to his abscondence.

The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne, Acting Special Agent in Charge John F. Dion Jr. of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and U.S. Marshal Gadyaces S. Serralta of the U.S. Marshals Service. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative to reduce violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement and community organizations.

The investigation that led to Pyrzyk's arrest was conducted by ATF West Palm Beach and U.S. Marshals West Palm Beach. Assistant U.S. Attorney Katie Sadlo prosecuted the case. Pyrzyk has been in custody since his January 2023 arrest and completed his previous two-year sentence while awaiting trial on the new charges. His 11-year sentence is consecutive to his earlier sentence.
