Firefighters responded to a call at around 5:30 p.m. at 2950 Coconut Grove Drive, where they found the elevator stuck in a building's blind shaft. Local 10 News reports the man communicated with first responders about his health situation.

Upon arrival, Engine 1 began investigating and found the man inside the elevator car, suffering from a medical issue. The Coral Gables Firefighters initiated a specialized technical rescue operation. The Coral Gables Fire Department’s Instagram page noted the use of advanced equipment and techniques to safely extract the man.

Lt. Ishmael Roig of the Coral Gables Fire Department emphasized the technical skills used during the rescue. "Utilizing advanced technical rescue equipment and techniques, a rescue technician was safely lowered into the shaft to access the patient," he said in a statement obtained by Local 10 News.

Once freed, paramedics assessed and treated the man at the scene. The specifics of his medical issue were not disclosed.
