The City of Coral Springs is hosting a series of events throughout April to celebrate Autism Awareness Month. The events aim to promote inclusivity and offer sensory-friendly activities. Sensory materials will be available at the Coral Springs Gymnasium, located at 2501 Coral Springs Drive, throughout the month.
According to the City of Coral Springs website, the events begin on Friday with the Boogie Down Dance at Sartory Hall for individuals with special needs to enjoy music, themed dances, and refreshments. On Saturday, Touch-A-Truck will offer attendees the chance to interact with city vehicles and register in a Special Needs Database to assist emergency responders in future crises.
For children with sensory sensitivities, the Hoppin’ Into Springs Egg Hunt will take place on Saturday next week at Sportsplex Park with a designated quiet time before noon. Later that day, the Coral Springs Museum of Art will host a Museum Family Day with sensory kits available for families to engage with the art exhibits.
On April 26, the Saturday Social Club will offer activities and entertainment for individuals ages 10 and up with physical and mental needs. On April 27, Coral Springs will host a Sensory Walk at Cypress Hammock Park, providing sensory bags for participants.
To close the month, a community forum titled Exceptional Voices Together will be held on April 29 at City Hall, inviting residents to share experiences and strengthen community bonds.
