A Covington man is facing aggravated assault charges after a violent confrontation at a local night club. According to Action News 5, Leslie Adams, 61, allegedly used a razor blade to seriously injure another patron at the Ruff Ryders Club during an argument. The incident occurred last Friday, prompting a response from the Covington Police Department (CPD).
The victim was airlifted to Regional One Hospital in Memphis for treatment due to the severity of the injuries. CPD quickly tracked down Adams, and Chief Donna Turner praised the officers for their swift action. “Due to the good police work by the patrol officers and detectives at the scene, the suspect was quickly identified and located,” Turner said in a statement to FOX13 Memphis.
Adams was arrested and charged with aggravated assault causing injury, according to CPD press statements. He is being held at the Tipton County Jail, awaiting his court appearance. Adams' arraignment is scheduled for today, as reported by Action News 5. The CPD emphasized the importance of preventing violence as warmer weather and increased nightlife activity approach.
“As the Spring temperatures begin to rise, we are increasing our patrols at these establishments to aid in reducing violence. This will increase the safety of other patrons throughout the Summer,” Chief Turner said in a press release shared on the Covington Police Department's Facebook page. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the CPD Criminal Investigations Division at 901-475-1261 or submit tips via the police department's Facebook messenger or the City of Covington website.
