In the search for a new leader to helm the Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR), City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert has whittled down the pool of 32 candidates to just four finalists. This announcement comes as the city seeks to fill the crucial position of overseeing one of the most critical public safety departments, which is responsible for fighting fires and providing emergency medical services.
Among the shortlisted are Todd Alt, Assistant Chief from Tampa, Florida Fire Rescue, and Justin Ball, the current Interim Fire Chief of Dallas Fire-Rescue. Raymond Hill, Executive Assistant Chief of the Fort Worth Fire Department, and Samuel Peña, the former Houston Fire Department Fire Chief, round out the list. Each finalist brings a uniquely seasoned background, which only the City Council and stakeholders will assess in the upcoming interviews.
"Dallas Fire-Rescue is a leader in the nation with innovative programs that provide emergency and medical services for all of whom we serve," said Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert in a statement detailed by Dallas City News. "DFR contributes to making Dallas one of the safest large cities in the country, and I am certain we have finalists who can continue to propel it forward."
The process now moves to a more public phase where the finalists interact with key community figures. Meetings are scheduled with the City Council on Thursday, April 3, from 4-5 PM, followed by a session with stakeholders from 5:30-6:30 PM. Both meetings will take place in Dallas' Flag Room, where the input garnered will certainly be of interest for a decision of this magnitude. The process's transparency signals the emphasis on community engagement in selecting the individual who will steer DFR into its future chapter.
