
Sunday marks the somber anniversary of a Dallas Police Officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Lane was killed on March 2, 1974, during the arrest of a kidnapping suspect after a chase that ended in tragedy.
Drawing details from the police department's recollection, after a car chase that culminated in a crash, the suspect fatally shot Officer Lane.
The official Facebook post by the Dallas Police Department recounted the fateful day when an off-duty officer's stolen weapon was used against one of their own. It read, "Officer Leslie Lane, #2831, was shot and killed in the line of duty on March 2, 1974, while arresting a kidnapping suspect who had stolen a weapon from an off-duty officer." They ended their remembrance with the hashtag #GoneButNotForgotten, honoring Lane's memory and service.
