The official Facebook post by the Dallas Police Department recounted the fateful day when an off-duty officer's stolen weapon was used against one of their own. It read, "Officer Leslie Lane, #2831, was shot and killed in the line of duty on March 2, 1974, while arresting a kidnapping suspect who had stolen a weapon from an off-duty officer."
