DeKalb County has officially announced that its Summer Food Program will be returning for the 2025 season. In partnership with the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning and the Happy Helping Program, the county aims to provide meals for youths 18 and under during the summer months. This initiative is set to run from June 9 through July 18, as detailed on the county's website.

Qualifying agencies who wish to distribute food will need to ensure that at least 50 percent of the children they serve meet the income guidelines for free and reduced-price meals within the National School Lunch Program. Those children who are part of households receiving food stamps or AFDC assistance will be automatically eligible. The program, which intends to quickly and effectively get meals to those in need, is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and specifically targets children up to the age of 18.

Agencies with summer camps interested in becoming a program site are encouraged to reach out to Rose McGrue at 678-698-1114 for more information. Furthermore, applications and complete requirements for program site participation can be found on the DeKalb County website under the Summer Food section or can be picked up at the Mason Mill Recreation Center.

Applications for participation must be submitted by May 16. For additional details or inquiries, LaShanda Davis, the public relations specialist for DeKalb County's Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs, can be contacted at (404)710-6331 or via email at [email protected].
