In a recent announcement by the Denver District Attorney's office, Clemente Flores-Hernandez has entered a guilty plea for the second-degree murder of Karol Bedoya, as well as first-degree assault, receiving a 60-year sentence for his crimes. According to the Denver Police Department, the sentencing took place on March 11, concluding a tragic case that began over two years prior.

At the heart of this case was the violent act that occurred on February 24, 2023, when Flores-Hernandez fatally shot 44-year-old Bedoya in her northeast Denver home. The two had been entangled in an intimate relationship that spanned a decade, and, at, the time of the murder, Bedoya was accompanied by her two-year-old grandson. After the confrontation turned deadly, Flores-Hernandez also choked Bedoya's son before abducting the toddler and spurring a high-speed chase with law enforcement until his capture.

As obtained by the Denver Police Department, Denver District Attorney John Walsh remarked on the case's conclusion, "Karol Bedoya's murder is yet another terrible reminder of the tragic toll domestic violence takes on our community and our families." Walsh expressed his hopes that Flores-Hernandez's plea and the subsequent sentence would bring some solace to Bedoya's circle of loved ones. The Denver DA's office extended its gratitude to the team that worked diligently on the case, including the investigators as well as court-certified Spanish interpreter, Maite Lara-Roca, whose contributions were highlighted as having played an "instrumental role in the prosecution of the case."

Handling the case for the Denver DA’s office, were Chief Deputy District Attorney Chris Curtis and Senior Deputy District Attorney Victoria Kelley. Together, they spearheaded this prosecution, ensuring that Flores-Hernandez faced consequences for his actions. In light of the guilty plea, there is a collective hope for healing as the community grapples with the repercussions, of such reprehensible domestic violence tragedies.
