A significant fire broke out overnight at the Doraville Package Store in DeKalb County, endangering a nearby gas station. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the fire started just after midnight on the 6400 block of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.
Firefighters arrived to find the liquor store fully engulfed in flames and faced the additional risk of the nearby gas station. Wind-driven flames increased the danger, with Battalion Chief Steven Vickery telling FOX 5 Atlanta, "When you're talking about a gas station, you're talking propane tanks and things like that - so you're talking about a lot of hazards."
According to Atlanta News First, the fire escalated to a two-alarm status. Strong winds made it more challenging for firefighters to control the blaze, as the flames spread from the liquor store. Chief Vickery emphasized the importance of protecting surrounding areas and confirmed that there were no civilian casualties. Despite the extensive damage to the structures, the gas pumps were not at risk.
The fire was quickly brought under control, and fortunately, no injuries were reported among first responders. Despite the significant damage, the liquor store's owner plans to rebuild and reopen, showing resilience in the face of the loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
