In a violent encounter that rocked the quaint streets of Dracut, police charged a man after a disturbing act of domestic violence ensued this past weekend. Dracut Police Department reported that Sebastian Degout, age 38, of Dracut, is facing charges of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a family or household member, and mayhem after allegedly stabbing a woman multiple times last Saturday.
Authorities were alerted to the incident on 18th Street around 5:07 p.m. where they found the victim with over 10 stab wounds. After fleeing the scene, Degout was apprehended close to Humphrey and Methuen streets in Lowell, roughly a half-mile from where the violent encounter took place, police swiftly executed a search of the nearby vicinity and caught the suspect without further complications. A knife, which is believed to have been the weapon used during the attack, was recovered by the police.
The victim received immediate medical attention from the Dracut Fire Department and Pridestar/Trinity EMS at the scene. Subsequently, she was rushed to Lowell General Hospital and later airlifted to a regional trauma facility in critical condition. Details of her current state remain sparse, but the seriousness of the incident has cast a somber shadow over the community.
Since the arrest, Degout has been held without bail, with his arraignment taking place on Tuesday in Lowell District Court. At the arraignment, he was ordered to remain in custody, pending a dangerousness hearing slated for tomorrow, March 20. The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office along with, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section are working in conjunction with the Dracut Police Department in this ongoing investigation, to unravel the sequence of events leading up to this tragic affair.
