
On Monday, a driver found themselves in the custody of the California Highway Patrol after a routine traffic stop revealed a firearm inside a vehicle on Interstate 880. According to a report from the CHP Oakland, the incident occurred just south of High Street when officers noticed a brown Buick sporting expired registration tabs.
The traffic stop, which took place at approximately 2:53 a.m., escalated after officers approached the vehicle and spotted "what appeared to be a black revolver against the driver’s chest." As per CHP Oakland, the officers managed to make the arrest without further incident, taking possession of the firearm and detaining the driver.
The driver, whose identity has not been released by authorities, faces multiple charges following the discovery. Officials report that the individual has been charged with possession of a loaded firearm by a non-registered person, an altered serial firearm, and possession of marijuana. The evidence collected during the arrest, namely the firearm, has been seized by law enforcement, and the driver was subsequently booked into Santa Rita Jail.
