The El Paso County Sheriff's Office recently showed its support for veterans and their families at the Borderplex Veterans & Family Caregiver Expo. In a social media post, Sheriff Oscar Ugarte detailed the participation of the office's Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) in the event held on February 21 and 22.
During the expo, deputies from the CIT and clinicians from the Emergence Health Network (EHN) joined forces to establish an informational booth. They aimed to distribute resource packets, answer questions, and discuss the mental health and crisis intervention services they can offer to those in need. According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, the effort is part of their ongoing dedication to supporting the veteran community.
Over the course of the two days, the CIT was able to engage with over a hundred attendees, facilitating important conversations. The officers and mental health professionals worked together to make sure veterans and their caregivers knew about the various supports available to them, navigating them through services that could potentially be life-saving.
