
The mariachi musicians of El Paso ISD made a resonant statement at the 2025 UIL State Mariachi Festival. Following an impressive showing, Franklin High School's ensemble strummed their way to a second consecutive Superior rating, the highest accolade a team can receive at the event. Austin, Chapin, and Coronado high schools also plucked at the heartstrings of judges, garnering Excellent ratings for their performances.
Phillip Barraza, the Executive Director of Fine Arts for El Paso ISD underscored the students' achievements. "We are incredibly proud of all our mariachi programs for their outstanding performances at the UIL State Mariachi Festival," he said, according to El Paso ISD. These accolades aim to affirm the rigorous discipline, hard work, and passion for music nurtured within the district.
The UIL State Mariachi Festival is a notable annual competition hosted in Seguin, Texas. It gathers a spectrum of the state's finest high school mariachi bands. These groups don't just compete, they celebrate and share the deep cultural roots mariachi music is anchored in.
